Lipstick Collection

Oh. My. Goodness. This is going to be such an exciting post!

If y'all know me at all, then you know I'm a makeup junkie! I especially love those fun lip colors :) Even if I'm only wearing mascara and nothin' else, I will throw on some kind of lippie.

I mean, life is too short to not have a fun lip color on. Everyday :)

This may be an extensive post, but I KNOW you girls will enjoy it. I'll be giving you the down low on the lippie formulas, the finishes (matte, sheen, gloss, etc.), anything and everything else you could ever possibly want to know about a lip product. (you actually probably don't even know that you want to know this stuff :)

This is my WHOLE lip collection at the moment, I recently purged all of the ones that I either did not like the formula, color, or I just didn't wear enough for it to be taking up precious space in my collection!

Enjoy, my dears!

Lipstick Collection

These first swatches are of my Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick Collection
These retail for $20 a piece (sounds pricey compared to drugstore) but they are *oh so* worth it!

These lippies are applied with a doe foot applicator.
They are opaque with the first swipe.
Their color payoff is AMAZING
They last for about 6 hours on your lips (depending on what you're doing with them). But they last me through drinking and most eating, with the exception of a burger ;)
There is around 20 colors in her collection, but some of them come and go as they are limited edition sometimes.
They are soft and comfortable on my lips to wear all day, and they've been known to last me even when we used to go snorkeling everyday #yesiwearlipstickwhenisnorkel

What else can I say? These babies are worth it!

Without flash. Left to right: Catnip, Soft Lilac, American Doll, Electric Coral, Sorbet, Lovely.

These are my other liquid lipsticks that made the cut when I got rid of the rest of them! Take a look!

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick: This brand is sadly not my fave. The darker color of the two (Patina) has been extremely popular in the beauty community. So popular that I don't know how I got my hands on it.
While the colors I have (Patina and Bellisima) are very flattering, they tend to be DRYING. My lips constantly flake and need to be retouched when I wear these matte colors.
These liquid lipsticks have a doe foot applicator.
But I couldn't stand to get rid of them because I love the way the colors wear on my skin tone.
They are very opaque, and the color pay off is incredible!
The formula is on the thicker side, which is why I don't think they wear too well.
They last me about 2-3 hours before I voluntarily take them off because they are too uncomfortable to wear.
This brand has around 9 colors to choose from in this formula.
They retail for $24 a piece.

Sephora Cream Lip Stain: I was pleasantly surprised at the Sephora brand! I tend to skip past the Sephora brand when I go into the store but all I have to say is #dontknockituntilyoutryit !
The colors are beautiful and they have a good range of about 14 colors.
They have a doe foot applicator on these babies!
They retail for $14 a piece. They are a much smaller tube though. But this doesn't bother me because then it won't dry out before you can use the whole product!
I have gotten a ton of complements on both of the colors I have from the collection when I wear them (Cherry Blossom 07 and Marvelous Mauve 13).
These wear for about 2-3 hours on me, but are a much thinner formula. I honestly don't mind retouching these ones because they're so comfortable on the lips!
I think the color payoff is awesome! They dry to a soft matte on the lips.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick: This one was another surprise for me! Kat Von D has just recently stepped up her game in the makeup department, and I have been loving all of her other products. This liquid lippie is no different!
I got the color Berlin, which is a striking pink, without being too over the top.
These liquid lipsticks come with a doe foot applicator.
They are opaque, easy to work with, and apply seamlessly.
The color pay off is stunning and they wear well!
These retail for $20.
They last about 3-4 hours on me.

Without flash. Left to right: Kat Von D "Berlin", Sephora "Marvelous Mauve", Sephora "Cherry Blossom", Stila "Patina", Stila "Bellisima".

Bottom of the tubes.

The order is backwards in this pic #blondemoment.  The two left ones are Stila Stay all day liquid lipsticks. The next two are Sephora Cream Lip Stains (same thing as a liquid lipstick). The last one on the right is Kat Von D's liquid lipstick.

Tubes shown with flash.

These next swatches are of a different kind of lippie. Not quite a liquid lipstick, but also not a regular lipstick either.

NYX Matte Lip Creams:  The name says it all. These are matte and suuuuuper creamy!
They come in a ton of colors and retail for around $6.
The amount of product is on the small side, but you are also paying a smaller price.
These are not my favorite, but they get great reviews from lots of other people! I just prefer to have something that is longer lasting on my lips, so I tend to reach for my liquid lipsticks more often than not.
These are applied with a doe foot applicator.
These last about 1 hour on my lips before I need to reapply.
That being said, they are a bit streaky, but have a ton of color in them (Aka, you can layer it to your liking).

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil:  Don't get it wrong, these aren't like an actually lip pencil that you would use to outline your lips. These are much thicker than that.
They are soft with a matte finish, but don't tend to wear more than an hour on your lips.
These retail for $26.
These apply as like a chubby pencil stick.
I love the feel of them and how comfortable they are, but again, I hate the short wearing part of it!
These are opaque in color, but have more of a sheer finish it seems.
Give these a try if you don't mind having to reapply!

Without flash. Left to right: Nars Darker Red (no color listed), Nars Mauve Pink (no color listed), NYX  Prague, NYX Milan, NYX Istanbul, NYX Athens.

Without flash, the Nars ones on the right are a mini size. They are much larger when you actually buy them and don't just get them as a point perk at Sephora ;)

With flash. Again, the colors are backwards. Oops!

These next ones are some awesome colors! And they may be great stocking stuffers!

NYX Matte Lipstick: These have great color payoff! And if I remember correctly, they're around $6-$8. Cheap!
They are opaque and layer well.
The finish is matte, but not as drying as you would think.
They wear about 2 hours on me, which for a regular lipstick, is amazing!
I remember seeing a ton of colors when I picked this up at Sephora. The color, Licorice, is an amazing Fall/Winter color.
They are a regular lipstick with no applicator.

Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick Duo: These retail for $14. I think that price is a little high because even though you are getting 2 colors per lipstick, the amount of product is TINY. However, this brand is amazing! It is made out of fruit! So it's healthy to eat your lipstick (of course don't purposely eat it!).
These are not matte, they are luminous and creamy, but they do need to be reapplied around every 3 1/2 hours.
There are so many different colors though, which makes it fun and daring! I have a nude duo and a vibrant duo.
The color pay off is very good in the darker colors, but is a bit sheer in the nude colors. However, you can easily layer these.
They are a regular lipstick with no applicator.

Without flash. Left to right: NYX Licorice, Bite Beauty Palomino, Bite Beauty Violet, Bite Beauty Muse, Bite Beauty Lychee.

With flash.

Bottom of the tubes.

These next swatches are purely drugstore! They are on the cheaper side, but still produce great quality lippies!

Revlon Matte Color Burst: I discovered these around a year ago, and I loved them, especially in the summer for pool days!
I picked mine up for about $8 a piece, but there is a ton of product in them.
They do not apply as matte as the rest of the matte products in my collection do.
They last around 3 hours without a touchup.
They can tend to get a little thick when you do get around to touching them up.
I've worn them in the pool without them budging.
The color on these are not streaky at all, and they are very opaque!
These are a chubby lip pencil applicator.

Revlon Creme Lipstick: I actually got this one for free. We used to have a coworker at Aulani who's aunt worked for a cosmetic store like Sally's and gave us free makeup all the time! I love free :)
This color is absolutely stunning and the lipstick is extremely creamy!
The color payoff is not what I would expect from Revlon. It's even better!
They are easily layered or can be sheered out if you prefer.
This is a typical lipstick applicator.

Without flash. Left to right: Revlon Creme Lipstick "Primrose", Revlon Matte Colorburst "230" (no name sorry), Revlon Matte Colorburst "220", Revlon Matte Colorburst "235", Revlon Matte Colorburst "210", Revlon Matte Colorburst "001".

These next swatches are glosses! Hooray! I love a great gloss :)

Buxom Lip Creme: Just seriously try this brand. I love it.
Amazing color pay off.
Minty feel on the lips (they tingle!).
This gloss wears for about 2 hours on me!! That's huge for a gloss!
These retail for about $20 with a doe foot applicator.

Bite Beauty Lip Gloss: This is an awesome brand, as I said earlier! They are made with fruit, so that it is safe to ingest (because we apparently, unknowingly, ingest a lot of what we wear on our lips!).
This color is amazing.
The glosses are creamy.
I love them! Buy them!
They retail for about $18 with a doe foot applicator.

Urban Decay Naked Gloss: This color is beautiful. It's not my favorite out of all of them, but it applies well.
This glides on smooth, and is sheer in color.
It is applied with a doe foot applicator and is around $20.

Bare Minerals Gloss: All of my sisters and I love these! I even got one of these for my best friend and her mama this Christmas! That's how much I love these!
They have a great range of colors and amazing color pay off.
These glosses are not too sticky, and they last a long time!
I believe they retail around $16.

Without flash. Left to right: Bare Minerals "Hypnotist", Bare Minerals "Maverick", Bare Minerals "Rebel", Urban Decay Naked "Liar", Bite Beauty "Rambutan", Buxom "White Russian".

This last group is a mix of what I had left in my collection! We have a couple glosses and some lipsticks! Let's jump in!

It Cosmetics Gloss: Yes, this is a blue gloss. Why? Because blue makes your teeth look whiter! It does not show up blue on your lips, but instead makes you look like a glowing beauty!
This gloss is very smooth, but has no color to it.
There is no minty flavor in it.
This retails around $24 I believe.

NYX Butter Gloss: Ah the fabled butter gloss. And yes! These are worth it!
These retail under $10 and stay on forever! Until you kiss your hubby of course, and then the gloss will transfer (as will any other gloss).
These are OPAQUE colors. The color pay off in this gloss is INCREDIBLE!
Take a chance on these. There's tons of colors and I love that they feel like butter on your lips. Not sticky at all.

Mac Lipstick: This of course is a super popular brand. I only have one because, like I said, I prefer my liquid lipsticks. But, I love the finish of these!
The color I have is a creme sheen, but that being said, it can be layered.
Once it gets layered, it begins to settle in the lines of your lips, which I don't like.
But they smell phenomenal, but I love the amount of colors they offer!
These will retail in the $20 range.

YSL Lipstick: Ladies, if you don't like this lipstick, then I don't know that there's any hope for you ;) Just kidding!
The color I got is apparently the one that Kourtney Kardashian used to wear all of the time.
It's an orangey red that highlights your teeth and shows off that beautiful pout of yours.
This is a long lasting, creamy lipstick. I've had 4 hours of wear out of one application.
This color looks beautiful on a summer day!
However, these do retail for about $30. Quite expensive, but I think worth it :)
Color pay off is gorgeous, there is no streakiness in this formula!

Kat Von D Lipstick: This lipstick is definitely matte. I bought it because it was so hard to get ahold of in the color Lolita.
This applies a bit patchy for my liking, but with 2 layers you get an opaque color.
This is extremely dry on my lips, but the color is so fun!
This retails around $25 I believe.

Without flash. Left to right: Kat Von D "Lolita", YSL "13", Mac "Creme Cup", NYX "Sugar Cookie", It Cosmetics " New Anchor Blue".

  1. I have a huge Christmas party this weekend and I want my make up to look just like the Mac creme cup picture. Could you please provide all product info you used?

    1. Sure thing!

      Face:
-No7 (Boots company from target) Beautifully Matte Makeup base (if you use this, do not rub it on your face. Just lightly pat into skin wherever you get oily)
-Maybelline Fit Me Dewy and Smooth Foundation in 120 Classic Ivory (applied with damp beauty blender. Dupes for this can be found at ulta for much cheaper. I recommend the Real Techniques blending sponge).
-Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 20 Sand (under the eyes, between the eyebrows, on the chin, down the center of the nose, and on the cupids bow. All blended out with a beauty blender).
-Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder (Everywhere that we went in with the concealer. Just set it with any brush you have. A cheaper version of this is Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder in 001 transparent)
-Sephora Bronzing Powder in 3 Los Cabos (This is applied with an angled brush in the hollows of your cheeks, right below your cheekbones. Suck in and make a fishy face to find the hollows of your cheeks. Also apply this to your forehead, but do not bring it to your eyebrows, this will make you look mad! Just apply to the sides of your forehead and blend up)
-Fox In A Box Blush by Hardcandy in Spicy and Sweet (This can be found at walmart. Just apply to the apples of your cheeks with a blush brush and blend back into your hairline).
-Hardcandy So Baked Bronzer in 129 Tiki (This can also be found at walmart. It says bronzer, but it is actually a highlighter. Apply this to the tops of your cheekbones with a small brush. You can also apply this down the center or bridge of your nose and a bit above the arch of your eyebrow. To blend the eyebrow and the cheekbone highlight, come down around your eyebrow and the outer edge of your eye in a C motion to connect. Make sure to use a light hand with this and blend a lot!)
-Sephora Retractable Brow Pencil in 05 Neutral Gray Brown. (Any brow pencil or product will do. Just put a faint line underneath your brow, to map out the bottom of your brow. Then make hair like strokes with your product in the direction that the hair is going until it is all filled in. Then take a brush and comb it through. I also put a brow gel on top to make it stay, but that is not necessary. If you want to use it, I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel in Clear)
-NYX dewy finish setting spray (Can be found at target and ulta. Spray on your face when done applying. 3-4 sprays should be good).

    1. Eyes:
-I used the Morphe Jaclyn Hill Palette. But any eyeshadow will do. Take a light brown eyeshadow and blend into your crease with a blending, fluffy brush. Do this until you cannot see any lines of the eye shadow. The more blending you do, the more flawless it will look. I then take a lighter color, you could do a matte or shimmery color and apply it to the lid, do not take this into your crease. Pat this on your lid with a flat shader brush if possible. You can also use your finger. Then take a dark brown shadow and apply it to the outer V of your eye. This means a bit on the outer lid and a bit into the crease . Blend with a fluffy brush until you can see NO lines. This may take a bit. But blend at each step. It will eventually come together, I promise! If you are having a hard time really blending out the outer V, take your first fluffy blending brush, put the same light brown color on it that you used for your crease (only a dab or two), and use it to help blend it out by making small circular motions in a windshield wiper fashion. Taking small amounts of color and blending will help you get a seamless look! (I know wet and wild makes great small palettes for a couple bucks, I have seen them at Walmart. They tell you which color to put where. A great color scheme I know of is Walking on Eggshells by the Wet and Wild brand).

-Use any mascara you have. I use Loreal Telescopic in Carbon Black.

-Apply False lashes if you wish. I have on Ardell Wispies in this pic. I find them almost anywhere I go; Sallys, Walmart, Target, Ulta, etc. I use the Duo glue brush on adhesive. It is clear (looks white in the bottle) and has green writing on the outside. If you have a hard time applying false lashes, but want to try, first cut down the lashes to fit your eyes. Always cut the outer edge, and only do a few at a time (you will see what I mean when you have the lashes in your hand). I only need to cut off 2 of the knotted hairs. I then apply the glue to the entire lash band, and even apply a little extra on the ends, and blow on it for at least 20 seconds. This is very important. Allow the glue to get VERY tacky until you put it on. Then take your fingers or tweezers to apply, and start by laying the lash against your natural lash band as close as you possibly can. Make sure to press down on the lash bands to make sure they are adhering to each other. Then I push on the end of the lashes to make sure it is snug with my natural lashes. Then I push them up with my fingers a bit. This makes sure that you can see the lashes and that they stand out. Don't be afraid to practice this! If you need to see it done, go on youtube and look up how to apply false lashes. Nicole Guerriero has a great video on it, along with tons of other Youtube makeup gurus.

      - Apply mascara to bottom lashes if you want. I don't have that on in this pic. I do have on a nude colored eyeliner in my waterline. This will make you look more awake. Nars sells one in Rue Bonaparte (thats the color name). But I personally use the one from Rimmel.

    2. Lips:
-Mac Creme Cup. It's gorgeous! If they are out of that color, try Mac Angel. It is very similar. The glosses from Buxom in White Russian and the gloss from Bite Beauty in Rambutan is also very similar. Just a couple options in case they are sold out or anything :) I do not have any lip liner on , but if you need to have it on, you can use a light pink or light nude one that matches your skin tone a bit.

      Hair:
      - I did not heat style it at all. But if you want to, feel free to straighten or lightly curl. If you curl, make sure to hair spray the curls after, let them cool fully (10 mins or so) and then finger brush them out. It will make them amazing! You can use any curling iron or even a flat iron for that.

-Part your hair, mine is parted on the side. But nothing too crazy. If you want the perfect side part, just follow the middle of your eyebrow up (before the arch).

-I then took the end of a rat tail comb (can find at Sallys for cheap) and took the top section of my hair and lightly twisted it. I then secured it in the back of my hair (or as far as you can go back) with bobby pins. Insert them with the crimpy side down against your scalp. It will stay much better. If you want to go one step further, lay your bobby pins on a paper towel and spray them with hairspray before using them in your hair. The best bobby pins I have found are from Sallys and come in a huge round plastic octagon looking container.

-Another thing that I do frequently is inside out french braid the two top halves of my hair and pull back. Does the same effect but looks so fancy! I learned how to do this on youtube.

-Make sure you have pulled back both sides of your hair in the same way and then hair spray it until you think it will hold!

Let me know if I missed anything or if you have any questions! I hope you have fun at your Christmas Party :)

  3. Thank you so much for the instructions. I have never really been the girl that gets all dolled up so I wanted to surprise everyone. Surprise was an understatement. No one recognized me. Lol. It was a great time and I thank you for much for all your detailed instructions. I will be doing this more often.
