Let's Talk: Hair + Makeup!

So, y'all.

Today happens to be my birthday!

And it goes totally perfect with this post because I LOVE hair and makeup.

As a self-taught MUA, I truly enjoy makeup and the art form that it is.

Hair is important as well, and I feel that makeup and hair compliment each other :)

So, I'll be sharing my favorite products and techniques for y'all today!

Let's get to it!

Let's Talk: Hair + Makeup!

Hair
Favorite Products

1. Matrix Biolage ColorLast Shampoo
2. Matrix Biolage ColorLast Conditioner

3. It's A 10 Miracle Hair Mask

4. Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Primer

5. Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil

6. Kenra Volume Finishing Spray

7. Kenra Shine Spray

8. Kenra Texturizing Taffy

Favorite Techniques

1. When you're washing your hair, make sure your hair is completely soaked through before applying any shampoo. This will ensure that all of the oils are loosened up.

2. Shampoo mainly the roots of your hair, and give yourself a good scalp massage to encourage your hair follicles to grow.

3. Condition only the ends of your hair, and just use whatever is leftover on your hands in your roots. Take a wide toothed comb in the shower and comb through your hair with the conditioner in it. This will prevent any major tangles when you get out of the shower.

4. Once a week, use a deep conditioning mask in your hair and leave it in for 10 mins while you're in the shower. This will help the strength of your hair and keep the split ends at bay.

5. When you get out of the shower, just tie your hair up in a towel. Do not towel dry it {rubbing the hair in the towel}, and apply oil primer all over your hair.

6. Apply 2 pumps of oil to the ends of your hair, and then brush through your hair with a comb. I prefer to let it air dry from here to not use a hair dryer.

7. After you've completed your hair style, of course use hair spray, and shine spray if needed. But texturizing taffy {a very small amount} will take your hair do to the next level. Warm a pea size of it up in your fingers and 'scrunch' it throughout your hair.

2. BECCA Backlight Priming Filter

3. BECCA Under Eye Brightening Corrector

4. L'oreal True Match Lumi Liquid Illuminator

5. Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation

6. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer

7. Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder

8. Benefit Hoola Bronzer

9. BECCA Mineral Blush

10. Benefit Watts Up Cream Highlighter

11. BECCA Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfecter Highlighter

13. Koko Lashes

14. Sephora Retractable Brow Pencil

15. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel

16.  Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick

17. Buxom Lip Cream

Favorite Techniques

1. Prep your skin by spraying a fresh facial spray.

2. Use a luminous primer all over your face as your base to give yourself a 'glow from within' look.

3. With your ring finger, apply a bit of the under eye brightening cream. Blend it out with a very damp beauty blender.

4. Mix half of your liquid highlighter and half of your foundation together and apply several dots of it to your face. Blend it out with a very damp beauty blender.

5. Apply a concealer under your eyes in an upside down triangle shape and blend it out with your beauty blender.

6. Set your concealer with a translucent setting powder.

7. Apply concealer in between your eyebrows, in the middle of your chin, down the bridge of your nose, and right above the cupids bow. Blend this out with a damp beauty blender.

8. Apply your bronzer in the hollows of your cheeks {you can find this by sucking in your face like a fish. The big hollows are where you apply the bronzer. This is used to mimic where shadows would hit on your face}. Apply the bronzer using an angled brush or a stippling brush. Blend this out well. No harsh lines! Also apply some bronzer on your temples on your forehead, and down the sides of your nose.

9. Apply a small amount of blush on the apples of your cheeks with a blush brush and blend it back into your hairline almost.

10. Apply your cream highlighter with your ring finger to the tops of your cheek bones and above the arch of your eyebrows. Also apply this down the bridge of your nose, and on your cupids bow. Blend this out with your finger as much as you can, and then lightly blend it out with a very damp beauty blender.

11. Apply your pressed highlighter on top of the cream highlighter to set it and add some extra glow. Make sure this is well blended or you can have 'zebra stripes'. I recommend blending it with a small eye blending brush, and then a bit with your ring finger.

12. Apply a coat of mascara to your eyelashes to prep for falsies {or keep it simple and just curl your lashes and add a few more coats of mascara}.

13. Apply your falsies with glue. Wait 20 sec after applying your glue to the lash band and then apply it to your eye. The tackiness will help with the performance of your lashes throughout the day.

14. Enhance your eyebrows by drawing a faint line underneath your brow. Then with short hair like strokes, fill in your brows to your liking. Make sure to brush them out with a spooley after. I promise, this will make them look 10 times better! Don't be afraid of the spooley!

15. Coat your eyebrows with some brow gel. This will keep it in place all day and keep your eyebrows from fading.

16. Apply your favorite lipstick or gloss. Liquid lipstick stays on all day, even through eating and such. You can also slightly over line your lips with it if you want to, and you won't be able to see where you overlined it!

17. Apply a gloss, but I personally do not like applying a gloss over a liquid lipstick. Sometimes a gloss can do it all on it's own!

18. Set your makeup with that first setting spray you used in the beginning!

Easy peasy! I hope that helped y'all with some techniques and products! I only rave about the things I love, so I hope these products work for you too.

Have a wonderful day! It's an amazing day today, thank you Jesus!

Makeup Mondays: Dose of Colors Review

I told y'all, I'd be linking up my latest YouTube videos on here for Makeup Mondays.

Let me just say, creating all of these things {blog posts, videos, etc}, has totally become the best passion project ever :)

Hope y'all enjoy!

In case you ever need to link back to The Fashionista Housewife channel on YouTube.

Here's my latest video:

This video is all about the Dose of Colors liquid lipsticks that I have been mentioning in the past few weeks. I'm swatching 5 of the colors, and giving a full review on them.

Other videos on my channel:

This look is gorgeous, and soft, and so complimentary to all skin tones!

This hair is all about looking like you just came out of the water, and pranced up on the beach like the goddess you are!

This makeup look is bold on the eyes, and really brings out the daring side in all of us!

I hope y'all love these videos as much as I do. A lot of time and effort go into them. As well as the blog.

But I love doing this! I love it. It doesn't feel like a 'job' to me. Or something that 'I have to do'.

And that to me, is passion.

So excited to hear what y'all think. If there's any other videos or blog posts you'd like to see, please leave a comment below or on a video. I'd love to know :)

What's Up Wednesday?!

Is anyone else having a hard time believing that February is almost over??? My goodness!

But I am so glad that my year has involved you guys. YES, YOU!!

I love this community. Y'all are just spectacular :)

Let's get started!

What's Up Wednesday?!

What We're Eating This Week

Well, we've been eating some new meals! I always get excited about trying new things :)

A classic that's been on our menu is my Homemade Spaghetti Sauce. If y'all know anything about me, it's my love for Jesus, my boys, and spaghetti. YUM.
I use spaghetti sauce for lots of things, and you will never go back to jarred stuff after making this!

We've also been eating Southwest Salad. So simple. So yummy.

And this mama loves her sweets! Any of y'all have a sweet tooth?? These cookies will be right up your alley. Super simple, and I always have the ingredients on hand.

They're soft, cake like, dreamy little bits of heaven #allthehearteyes

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies and Chocolate Chip Cookies

What I'm Reminiscing About

Reminiscing about our sweet baby! We cannot believe how big he's gotten. It's crazy!

{then and now}

Also reminiscing about the warmer months. I cannot wait to have more things to do than just being stuck inside. Plus, we have some pretty underrated summers where we live is what I've heard! ;)

What I'm Loving

I am loving being a little travel agent! One of my favorite things is to plan for our upcoming vacations. Any one else do this?? I have a knack for finding the cheapest places to stay that will still amaze you! Think luxury at the lowest price evaaaaa!

So we've got a couple of vacays comin' up! Hooray for downtime and being able to spend it together :)

And yes, these are all real pictures. Not filtered. Beautiful!

What We've Been Up To

A passion project. Anyone else had one of these??

I've decided to follow a passion project. So I started my YouTube Channel!

If you haven't checked it out, please do so. It would mean the world to me!

These are my three latest videos. If you love makeup and hair and all that girly stuff, or just want to learn more about technique in an easy and fun way, then I promise you'll love them!

What I'm Dreading

Hmm, that is just something that I'm not going to apply to my life. I am not dreading anything. I am consciously making a decision to think positively and not let others garbage be thrown on me. Ever heard of that law? Let me explain.

Garbage Truck Law

What I'm Working On

Well, I'm working diligently on my new YouTube Channel

And on tons of new content for y'all on the blog! I can't wait for you to see everything that's coming!

Let me know if there's something specific you'd like to see!

It can be about anything. Grief, healing, new recipes, workouts, makeup, how to be 1st time dog parents,  how I'm successfully losing weight, anything!

Leave any suggestions down in the comments :)

What I'm Excited About

I'm excited for my new makeup to be arriving in the mail.

I'm excited to be going on a beach vacay! {Ooh Ooh!!!}

I'm excited to be losing weight {which is well on it's way from running and working out!}

What I'm Watching/Reading

Anyone else watching The Bachelor???

I'm not sure who I'm rooting for. I honestly don't feel like I can get a good read on Ben...

But I'll tell you what I do like... Pinterest Told Me To's Bachelor Recap. I literally laugh my booty off for days after reading her posts! You are missing out if you haven't checked them out!

What I'm Listening To

Hmmmm, let's get a little list going! I've been listening to a ton of upbeat music and loving it!

1. My House - Flo Rida
2. Drunk On Your Love - Brett Eldridge
3. On My Mind - Don Diablo
4. Cake By The Ocean - DNCE
5. Magic - Mystery Skulls
6. It All Started With A Beer - Frankie Ballard
7. Build Your Kingdom Here - Rend Collective

What I'm Wearing

I'm wearing my new jeans from Nordstroms. They are Vigoss, only about $35 and SO CUTE

Also, I really am trying to NOT wear my wedges yet... But I'm so wanting to! My Franco Sarto Wedges are my fave!

What I'm Doing This Weekend

Hmmm, not sure yet! Puppy play, puppy training, and running our miles for the week. I love these times!  With my boys :)

What I'm Looking Forward To Next Month

Possibly moving?!! I say this every single time. And honestly, I think it's going to happen! We have just taken a few detours ;) But that's alright. I know God's preparing to put us where he wants us.

What Else Is New

I always find this question the hardest because I feel like I've answered so much above! But I do know that we have made some progress on our wedding planning. Which makes me ecstatic! But if y'all are getting married anytime soon, or know anyone who is, I'd love to pass on this advice.

It's easy in this day and age to get caught up in all the wedding planning. Make sure you are not planning a wedding, but preparing for a healthy, long lasting, loving marriage. Invest in your marriage. Not your wedding.

Bonus: Favorite Easter Tradition

Hmmm, favorite Easter tradition?? Well, I used to love Easter Egg Hunts and all that. But now that I'm older, and we don't quite have kiddos yet {except for Coley}, I am so excited to celebrate Jesus!

{my little sister and I and my lamby on her first Easter. She had a horrible fever in this pic. But don't worry. Mama nurse to the rescue}

This year, we'll be heading to church in the gorgeous Spring weather to say thank you for His sacrifice for us. And I think we'll be making him a cake. For, you know, celebration :)

I hope y'all have a wonderful week, month, and so on. I can't wait to see you back here tomorrow for some fun! I encourage you ladies to take some time for yourselves this week/month. Just at least one time! You are worth it!
