How To Make Your Home Smell Amazing!!!

Does this post entice you ladies? It sure does me! This has been a bunch of trial and error for us, but I have finally found a bunch of little tips and tricks that I would love to pass along.

Because some of the best feelings are

  • When a house guest compliments how good your home smells.
  • When your husband (who's totally nose blind) says he loves how good our home smells.
  • When you walk into your own home and notice how good it smells.
Anyone else see a recurring theme here? ;)

How To Make Your Home Smell Amazing

Kitchen
1. Replace your dish sponge! This can harbor so many smells of last week's dinner, and it can also get some food stuck in it. Do yourself a favor. Just buy a new one! I personally love the handheld ones. I never really put soap in them, because I like to put on my own soap, but they are better than sponges!

2. Pour soap in your garbage disposal! Honestly, I don't know what I would do without a garbage disposal. We hardly ever throw our unused food in the trash, mainly because it always finds a way to leak through the bag. Anyways, just pour a little bit of soap (dish soap, like dawn or palmolive) in sink. Get the water running warm-hot and turn on the garbage disposal. This will get rid of all the old food sitting in there, and it'll make it smell good!

3. Wash your trash can! Sounds silly right? But, I wash our trash can about once a month. You can do this with regular old dish soap and a hose (or a bathtub if you don't have a hose). I just squirt some soap in there and scrub it down. Really helps eliminate whatever gross could be growing in the bottom of it! (Insert monkey hiding the eyes emoji here)

4. Clean your stove! This goes especially for you gals out there who have burners with the coils and the plates underneath that catch everything (why can I not think of the word for that right now?!) Basically what I'm saying is that if you DON'T have a flat top stove, you need to be removing those coils and giving everything a good scrub down about once a month. If not, the old food that gets dropped in there while cooking will continue to burn and stick to your precious stove. No one wants that!

5.  Auto clean your oven! More than likely, your oven has a little preset button on it that will signal the oven to clean itself. I mean, come on. Could this get any easier?!

Bathrooms

1. Clean your toilets! Total duh moment, right? But I've seen some nasty toilets in my years of nannying, because the mama's are too busy to clean the toilets, and their little ones are either potty training, or completely missin' the mark. While I have the utmost respect for you mama's out there, take just a couple of minutes to really clean under the seat and inside the lid. Basically all of the nooks and crannies that usually get missed! Make sure to clean the floor around it too (we all know how little boys are, cute as they may be!). I found a great product that makes cleaning the inside of your toilet SO EASY. Trust me on this one. Worth every penny!

2. Clean out your drains! This is mainly for when they get clogged, but when they get clogged, it can really stink up the place! Use a little draino to keep it nice and fresh in there!

Bedroom

1. Wash your sheets! This only needs to be done about once a week, but it can really help freshen your space! We sweat, and drool, and all kinds of other things in our sleep. Think, if you did all that in clothes (sweat, drool, etc...) you'd be washing those clothes the next day! Use some fabric softener or some really nice smelling detergent!  I personally love tide!

2. Store your shoes! If your man (or you) have some stinky feet, make sure you are storing your shoes where the smell won't lurk out in the room. You can also stick some dryer sheets in each shoe to help deodorize the smell.

Everywhere

1. Make homemade potpourri! This just makes your house smell heavenly! Sign me up! You can use your slow cooker for this, and just leave it on all day, or put 2-3 cups in a pot on the stove and bring it to a boil over low heat (continue to add water, don't let it evaporate). Add in whatever you want your house to smell like! My fave is this:
1 orange
1/2 lemon
2 cinnamon sticks
2 tbs of cloves
1 cup of cranberries.

YUM! You can find so many of these ideas online, too!

2. Always have air freshener! My fave is from bath and body works. I just buy the refills about every 2 weeks. I love all of the 'flavors' they have, especially Leaves. Or anything cranberry or pumpkin! But you can just as easily buy the Glade brand or any other company who carries these! Just plug them into the wall, screw in the scent, and away you go!

I take so much pride in keeping our home nice and neat, but still homey. Just was loving the idea of sharing what I do on a weekly basis with y'all. Let me know if you enjoyed it too!
